This shrine is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Ieyasu's remains were first entombed at Kunozan in Suruga. Toshogu Shrine was built when his remains were transferred to Nikkozan, after he was conferred the posthumous Shinto name of Tosho Daigongen. The shrine is also famous as one of the power spots of the northern Kanto area.
